The Ministry of Culture has granted awards to the best books published during the year 2010. These awards do not have an economic endowment but they are highly valued by the publishers for the recognition and prestige of their editorial work, as well as for the publicity involved, since the books are included in book promotion actions and in the main national and international book fairs.
The categories awarded included: Art books, Rare and Curious Books, Facsimiles, books for children and adolescents , general and extension works;
The jury evaluated 318 works in total, included in five topical groups. These were the winning books:
First prize: Los juguetes de las vanguardias, of VV.AA., published by Picasso Museum Foundation Málaga and Legado Paul Christine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso; published by Ediciones El Viso.
Second prize: Nkame. Belkis Ayón, of VV.AA., published by Turner Publications, S.L
Third prize: Miguel Hernández. 25 poemas ilustrados, poems by Miguel Hernández, Illustrations by several authors, published by Kalandraka Ediciones Andalusia.
The Jury was presided by Mónica Fernández, deputy director general of Books, Reading and Spanish Literature Promotion. The members of the jury were: Teresa Mezquita, National Library of Spain, Andrés Fernández, Federation of Publisher’s Union of Spain, Manuel Vacas, Managerial Federation of Graphic Industries of Spain, Augusto Jurado, Club of Emeritus Printers, Natividad Correas and Rocío San Claudio at the proposal of the deputy director general of Books, Reading and Spanish Literature Promotion, and Marta Sáenz Bascones, expert official of the Ministry of Culture.
